Tricky – Ununiform

Tricky Ununiform album art

It’s about time–and we’re sorry that this may be late news for some of you: Tricky is back with the Ununiform LP and a new video! The iconic and influential pioneering UK (Bristol) trip hop artist, described as “Europe’s alternative choice in the second half of the ’90s” is currently based in Berlin. Emerging from the realms of Bristol sound systems and Massive Attack, where he rapped in the acclaimed debut album, Blue Lines, Tricky has left his permanent mark on alternative electronic music and the trip hop genre. Maxinquaye, Pre-Millennium Tension, Juxtapose, and Vulnerable are just a few influential records of his astonishing career. His music is noted for it’s dark style that blends cultural influences and genres like hip-hop, electronics and ragga. Ununiform is a 13-track LP featuring many vocal guests like Mina Rose, Asia Argento, Martina Topley-Bird…it’s dark, and trippy and urban!

Back in August, Tricky released the Running Wild single featuring vocals from from South-London’s newcomer Mina Rose. Have a listen:

…and earlier this year, following the announcement of his LP, Tricky presented the first official video for When We Die featuring Martina Topley Bird who first made a appearance on Tricky’s 1995 debut Maxinquaye LP. Remember that teenager in Black Steel?! They haven’t collaborated on one another’s output in fifteen years, but now was the time to work together again! “When you don’t accept death, you don’t really accept life,” says the man…

Hey people I'm Mike D from Athens GR (43). I'm a sound engineer, radio producer, and certainly a music "freak." I couldn't be anything else, you see: I grew up in a musical home (my father was a composer), and wanted to be a rock-star but wasn't patient enough to study music. Instead, I studied the technical stuff and went really "nuts" when I started writing articles about the bands and artists I love. It all started back in 2002 in a printed magazine (Sound Maker - RIP) and I still do it because I really like sharing my libraries, discotheque, info, connections, knowledge, and all. I'm involved in all "waves" music (new wave/darkwave/post-punk/shoegaze), punk, industrial, EBM, alternative rock, indie, electronic, avant-garde/ experimental/ freestyle...but on the other hand I can easily throw a classical CD in the player, or a jazzy tune, or...ok you get it: Music! I'd like to read your comments on my writing because you know how it goes, and you all know the glorious song by Placebo,"Without You I'm Nothing"...Thanx and enjoy Freedom and Music, Loud!
